Is Speed the CEO of your SEO?

Even more importantly your website users will love you twice as much if your site is fast because they can discover what they want quicker and easier.

Google have just recently included speed analytics in all Google Analytics accounts and have developed many tools for checking your site speed and tips on improving this.

Speed is a very big deal online

Nearly half of web users expect a site to load in 2 seconds or less, and they tend to abandon a site that isn’t loaded within 3 seconds. 79% of web shoppers who have trouble with web site performance say they won’t return to the site to buy again and around 44% of them would tell a friend if they had a poor experience online. This means you’re not just losing conversions from visitors currently on your site, but that loss is magnified to their friends and colleagues as well. The end result – lots of potential sales down the drain because of a few seconds difference.

After Neil Patel, one of the most renowned web guru’s of our time analysed 143,827 sites in correlation to speed factors and Google rankings, he found the following. Faster site speed did correlate with higher Google search rankings. The data suggests that improving start render times contributes directly to a higher Google result. They also corroborated the findings of other research, that top-ranked websites have faster site speeds for page load time to first byte.

Page Speed Online

In April last year, Google also introduced its own web-based tool, accessible via Google Labs, called Page Speed Online. It’s available as a web-based tool as well as a Chrome extension.

User experience and page load time have merged in a way. The user experience of a web site is now influenced by page load time, and vice versa.

‘There are no speed limits on the road to success.’ - David W. Johnson

Site speed is important, but it’s just one ranking factor among many. UX design is super important, visual appeal matters greatly.

Overall, while load time isn’t a significant contributor to Google rankings, it can contribute to the rise and fall of your conversion rate. Remember that for every second you shave off of load time, you’ll tend to boost customer confidence and trust in your site, and sow the seeds that will make them way to tell others about you. In those cases, a few seconds can make all the difference! Users love fast and responsive sites. They will feel more in control of their experience, consume your amazing content more efficiently and convert better.
