In 7 Positive Psychology Happy Habits for Work and Life, psychologist Dr. Colleen Georges discusses her seven favourite habits for enriching work and life overall. Just like running and stretching, these practices can form a solid foundation for keeping your spirits up and avoiding depression and frustration.
I then added a few of which I think are really important to get the balance right.
1. Focus on Your Strengths
What am I good at and how can I use it?
2. Express Gratitude
Those who practice daily gratitude experience greater joy, pleasure, happiness, and optimism and attract more of these experiences into their lives.
3. Be Kind And Generous
Seek opportunities to do a favour for someone and practicing random acts of kindness to lift your energy levels.
4. Forgive Yourself And Others
Learn and let go rather than dwelling on pain.
5. Reframe Your Thinking Towards Optimism
Find the silver lining in the difficulties of yesterday and today, and move forward with the confidence that tomorrow will be better.
6. Set Regular Goals
Setting short- and long-terms goals for our personal and professional life is critical for productivity and happiness. Write them down and read them often.
7. Connect With Others
Our brains are wired to connect, the happiest times of our lives are being with and shared with others.
8. Make your body happy
Feed your body, healthy nutritious food, exercise and sex.
9. Tune in - Breathe
Take a little time out to meditate, do some yoga, connect with life, experience the still moments.
10. Active mind
Be in an open frame of mind to learn every day. Listen and learn from others, try new skills, activities and experiences.
What ever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy. Happiness is an inside job. Don’t assign anyone else that much power over your life. The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.
